[COMP5212]Machine Learning

这门课的Grade：Grade较好
因为之前在Coursera上学过Andrew Ng的Machine Learning，觉得有点意思，可以深入了解一下，于是就报了这门课。同类的课还有UG COMP4211，个人认为上introductory PG课比UG课更能敦促学习有所收获，而且鉴于PG课的给龟方式成绩也不会很烂。
这门课涵盖的内容比较广，理论很系统，同时对于每一部分知识深度也比较合适，作为Machine Learning方向的中等级别课程比较好。
今年的内容基本是：
Bayesian decision theory
Parameter estimation
Dimensionality reduction (PCA, LDA, FA...)
Clustering (k-means, EM...)
Nonparametric methods (k-Nearest Neighbour...)
Decision trees
Linear discrimination (Logistic Regression...)
Multilayer perceptrons
Support vector machines (Hard, Soft, Kernel Extension...)
Deep learning
Performance evaluation and comparison
Ensemble learning
Assessment:
1) PSET * 3 (20%) 基本上都是数学推导，课内内容的延伸
2) Project * 2 (20%) 自己Implement一些Classifier，跑跑data做个empirical study
3) Midterm (20%)
4) Final (40%) 考试都是偏重概念性的题目，认真听课问题不大
Remark:
1) DY人真的很好啊！notes很精致，讲课也有条理，超赞！
2) 同堂的基本都是MPhil和PhD，课堂气氛很好，不过要提前占座，你懂的。
3) 总的来说这门课推荐给对Machine Learning有兴趣且有一定了解的童鞋，比如上过一点MOOC。理论性略强，需要看得惯数学符号。
